| We
know how much of an impact someone’s substance abuse and/or
problem gambling can have on your life.
If someone important to you is abusing alcohol, other drugs, or
gambling excessively, you may be experiencing some of the
following:
- feelings of confusion, fear, helplessness and anger
- concerns about the person’s physical health (for instance
you may be afraid they will get really sick or do permanent damage
to their liver) or emotional well being
- concerns about the impact on children and other family members
- concerns about how money is spent
- concerns about the future of your relationship
- avoidance of social contacts
All of these experiences are normal reactions to very stressful
and confusing circumstances.
We will help you to:
- recognize the signs of alcohol and drug abuse and problem gambling
- recognize and understand the impact the gambling, alcohol and
drug use is having on you and those you care about
- recognize when someone is ready to make changes and when they
are not
- understand what motivates people to change
- learn about the types of help available for people with alcohol,
gambling and/or drug problems
- avoid ignoring your own needs
- reduce feelings of isolation, guilt and helplessness
